The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has issued enrolment numbers to all schools for disbursing them to the students, who have to appear in the Class X, XI and XII annual board examination, but some private schools in Samba district are allegedly charging the students for it.

After sending the enrolment numbers to the schools (both government and private), the institutes have to disburse them to the students without charging any fee.

Sources said some private schools in Samba district were allegedly charging fee from the students to deliver them the enrolment number for the board exams. They said a majority of schools indulging in this malpractice were from the Purmandal zone of the district.

“The enrolment numbers of Class XII students have already been delivered and they are preparing for the examination at home. But the students of Class X are yet to receive the enrolment numbers,” said a teacher of a private school on the condition of anonymity.

“In order to charge fee for enrolment number, schools are telling students that they are short of attendance and will not be given the hall ticket unless they pay,” the teacher said.

The process of disbursing enrolment numbers to the aspirants is in progress.

Chief Education Officer (CEO), Samba, Rampal Bal said strict action would be taken against schools found charging money from the students.

“We will look into the issue. I will instruct the officials concerned to take appropriate action against such schools,” the CEO said.
