The court of District and Sessions Judge SK Garg on Thursday acquitted exporter Rajan Kochar in the murder case of money changer and owner of Pal Garments Showroom Anil Kumar, aka Billa (51), dating back to June 3, 2016.

Kochar, who was facing charges under Section 302 of the IPC and Arms Act as per FIR No. 70 at the police station Division No. 4, was today acquitted for the lack of evidence against him.

The murder of Billa by two bike-borne assailants in broad daylight near the busy Company Bagh Chowk had left the entire city shocked. He was driving his Toyota Fortuner when he was gunned down.

By arresting Kochar, who is an exporter-cum-partner of JK Tools, the police had built a case that he and Billa were engaged in a whopping Rs 96-crore business and the murder had been committed because of a financial feud between the two. Defence counsel Sanjeev Bansal had contested the case, claiming that the police had implicated his client without any concrete proof. Rajesh Kumar, Billa’s brother, had lodged an FIR in the matter. He had said that his brother was a regular for gym at Ramada Hotel and had left home at Guru Teg Bahadur Avenue at 8 am that day.

The family got the news of his murder at 11.30 am.
