‘Struggle is ongoing’

You may know him from the Kamla Pasand campaign for the World Cup or you can simply rewind the episodes of Four More Shots Please. Chandigarh lad Kanwalpreet Singh has been putting up regular appearances on digital media and commercials, apart from sharing screen space with many stars, such as Ranbir Kapoor in Tamasha and Prabhu Deva in Tutak Tutak Tutiyan.

Switched on

While Channel V’s Love.net was his debut run in reality shows, little did he know he will end up doing seven shows and come out as a winner in three reality shows. So, does it mean he did not have to struggle? He quips, “Struggle starts after you win. It is ongoing. You expect so much when you pass in your test run that you forget the competition is yet to start. That’s what showbiz is; in this business, you cannot nod off. Keep looking for what’s next and you will stay in the game.”

He cracked the code of reality shows and also of life. “After completing an MBA degree, I did not like the idea of working nine to five and was exploring something I could enjoy as well. Television doesn’t entice me because it also feels like a job and is monotonous. I am enjoying what I do.”

Body zone

Well, the same goes for fitness; he believes working out is good, but a strict diet to have certain kind of biceps or abs is not his thing. “I don’t want to be someone trapped in my own body where I have to walk a certain way and wear certain kind of clothes to present a particular image, which I am not. Ever seen bodyguards walking — they are victims of their own bodies. Also, I like to wear clothes that are comfortable.”

Punjabi at heart

“I have no regrets till now about the path I followed, but had I shifted to Mumbai at the beginning of my career, things would have been different. I take pride in being a Punjabi and will love to do an action movie in Pollywood.”

Kanwalpreet is playing a turban-clad Punjabi in his upcoming Hindi movies —Hai Tujhe Salam India and Gabhru Gang — and he can’t wait for their release.
