Mohali, February 21

The Mataur police today arrested a Hindu Shiv Sena activist, who was declared as PO by the court in 2019, in a fraud case registered in 2015.

The accused has been identified as Amit Sharma, a resident of Kharar. According to sources, Amit was the president of Hindu Shiv Sena in Mohali.

According to the police, a fraud case of Rs 12 lakh was registered against him and his parents in 2015 on the complaint of Ravinder Kumar alias Ravi Sagar. The accused was earlier arrested in June 2015 by the police, but later released on bail. Last year, he was declared PO (proclaimed offender) by a local court.

Ravi Sagar, a resident of Phase VII here, stated in his complaint that Amit, who was his relative, duped him of Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of sending his son to abroad.

The police had registered a case against Amit and his parents, Narinder Sharma and Deepa Sharma, under Sections 420, 406, 34 of the IPC and Immigration Act. Later, the FIR was quashed against Amit’s parents, said police.

The complainant said that he along with his family was threatened by the accused. He alleged that there was a gang of six persons, including Amit, who had been involved into many fraud cases and rackets.

The accused was produced in the local court which sent him to Patiala jail today.
