Ludhiana, January 24

Two persons have been killed in separate hit-and-run road accidents in the city.

A 21-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run mishap near the Cancer Hospital chowk. His cycle was hit by a rashly driven truck from behind.

The deceased has been identified as Sunny, a resident on Ranjit Nagar, Sherpur. His father Ashok Kumar said on the night of January 22, his son was returning home on his bicycle. He was hit by a truck from behind and he got crushed under the front tyre of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Ashok said the registration number of the truck was noted down by some passerby.

The police have registered a case against an unknown driver under section 304-A, IPC.

In another case, a middle-aged man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near the Nandpur octroi on the night of January 23. Manoj Kumar, an eyewitness, said the man was walking on the road when a speeding car hit him from behind. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.
