The state BJP has decided to stage a protest over the deteriorating law and order in the state government on Monday.

BJP state president Shwait Malik met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded the intervene of the Central Government, keeping in view “the failure of the state government to deal with the menace of drug abuse.”

“Due to the wrong policies of the state government, the youth of Punjab is badly shaken by drug addiction. The Capt Amarinder Singh government has failed to nail drug dealers and sand mafia, so the assistance of the Centre is required to save the state,” he said.

“I apprised the Union Home Minister that deaths due to drug overdose are happening every day in Punjab. In the last few days, the number of people killed due to drug addiction has increased, implying that the drug smugglers had no fear of the state government,” he said.

He said the assault on an ex-serviceman in Tarn Taran district by a drug trader for raising voice against drug abuse had been published in newspapers and such instances spoke volumes about the gravity of the situation. “The involvement of a DSP-level official in the drug trade, as per the allegations of a drug addict, is a blot on the face of the state,” he added.
