Levanshu, Tarini in lead on Day 1

CHANDIGARH: Levanshu Khullar and Manav Gupta scored three points each to share the lead after the third round in the Open U-19 category on the opening day of the Chandigarh U-19 (Open and Girls) Chess Championship at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, here, on Saturday.

Levanshu Khullar and Manav Gupta scored three points each to share the lead after the third round in the Open U-19 category on the opening day of the Chandigarh U-19 (Open and Girls) Chess Championship at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, here, on Saturday. 

Pratyaksh Goel, Armaan Dharni, Shaurya Kumaria, Jaspreet Singh and Yogik Khurana scored 2½ points each to finish the day in joint second position. 

Meanwhile, in the girls’ U-19 category, Tarini Goyal scored three points to claim the lead. Kashish Kaushal ended the third round in second position with two points. 

Mitali Saini, Bhuvi Prabhakar and Shirin Bhattacharyya shared the third position. 

A total of 51 players are participating in the championship, the organisers said, adding, following the tournament results, four boys and four girls will be selected to represent the city in the upcoming nationals at Delhi from December 3.
