Chandigarh, June 26

Despite the tall claims being made by the UT Administration regarding protecting the heritage of the city, a pair of heritage chairs, designed by world renowned architect Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, has once again been auctioned in New Zealand.

The auction fetched Rs 8,13,600. Ajay Jagga, social activist, has raised the issue before Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah.

He has demanded an inquiry to find out why heritage items were earlier sold as junk, causing a huge loss to the government.

He said despite a ban imposed by the Ministry for Home Affairs, heritage items were being sold abroad.
