State Congress incharge Anugrah Narayan Singh has rejected outright existence of any groupism within the Congress in the state. Anugrah Narayan Singh, who is on his maiden visit to capital Dehradun after taking over as incharge for Uttarakhand, while addressing a press conference at the state Congress headquarters on Wednesday asserted that airing views within the party should not be taken as groupism. Rather, it is a reflection of the internal party democracy within the Congress.

Anugrah’s statement comes at a time when only a day back senior Congress leaders had a verbal spat amongst themselves in front of him. Anugrah pointed out that it was only within the Congress that every leader or worker can express his views. This can never be the case with the BJP.

“The Congress is a family and difference of opinion cannot be taken as groupism. It is not the BJP where only two people have a say”, Anugrah Narayan Singh said in an obvious reference to BJP national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He disclosed that various committees would be set up shortly to resolve the grievances of partymen. Referring to a no confidence motion taken up in the Lok Sabha against the Modi government recently, Anugrah said the no confidence brought against Modi government by the Congress and the Opposition parties was meant to expose the ruling party on its alleged corruption in Rafale aircraft deal.

“In the last two sessions in the Lok Sabha, the ruling BJP was deliberately trying to avoid the issue and thus no confidence motion was part of strategy to expose BJP before people”, he pointed out.

Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Indira Hridayesh were also present at the news conference.
