Panipat, April 21

Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma today directed Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rajiv Mehta to get bags of wheat lifted in two days.

“No bag of wheat should be seen in the grain market after the stipulated time. In case the produce is not lifted, the contract for lifting will be cancelled,” he said during a visit to the grain market here.

Minister of State for Food and Supply Karan Dev Kamboj, Panipat (Urban) MLA Rohita Rewri and district BJP president Pramod Vij accompanied Ram Bilas.

Halwant Singh Kadyan, president of the commission agents’ association, apprised BJP leaders of the problems owing to non-lifting of wheat and alleged that sluggish lifting resulted in delay in payment.

Ram Bilas, meanwhile, directed a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) to fix problems arising out of low-hanging wires in the grain market.

Manjula Dahiya, District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC), was also directed to distribute 500 grams of gur (jaggery) to every labourer in the grain market up to May 15.

The Education Minister later told the media that some private schools had turned into malls. “The creation of special rooms for dresses, books, stationery and other materials on school premises is a worrying sign.”

He alleged the previous Congress government was responsible for the low standard of education in the state. “The no-detention policy affected students badly. They knew they would advance to the next class whether or not they attended classes or gave exams.”

Certain matters would be decided at a Friday meeting in Chandigarh, Ram Bilas said, adding the number of seats vacant under the EWS (economically weaker section) category would be declared in two days.
