Rohtak, February 11

Companies of paramilitary forces started arriving in Rohtak today as the district administration and the police authorities made arrangements to maintain law and order in view of upcoming agitation by those demanding reservation for Jats.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Yash Garg confirmed the arrival of paramilitary forces in Rohtak.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ravinder said that 24 companies of paramilitary forces, including the CRPF and RAF, had been allotted to Rohtak district, of which 11 had arrived till this evening. The remaining companies would arrive in two days, he added.

Amit Shah, BJP president, is slated to address a rally in Jind on February 15 and All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) has planned a tractor march to Jind the same day.

The samiti had earlier given an ultimatum to the state government to fulfil its pending demands by February 18, failing which it would launch a fresh stir.

In view of the situation, the Haryana Government had requisitioned paramilitary forces from the Centre to prevent any untoward situation.

Rohtak was the epicentre of violent agitation for grant of quota to Jats in February 2016, as well as the dharnas staged to press for the fulfillment of their demands later.

Security beefed up

Jind: Security has been tightened across the district ahead of BJP chief Amit Shah's February 15 bike rally. The All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) has been threatening to disrupt Shah's rally, citing non- fulfilment of a number of their demands as the reason behind it. The administration has deputed eight SSP, 55 DSP, 200 Inspector, 5,500 police men and 250 women police for the rally. Over 450 NGOs will also take part in the security arrangement, SSP Arun Singh said. Over eight companies of paramilitary forces have reached the Jind Police line and as many companies will reach the spot tomorrow, he said. PTI
