About the incident
- Sandeep Singh Khokhar, who runs an electronics business, said he had contacted an online seller to purchase a second-hand generator. The seller offered him the product for Rs 8 lakh with taxes
- He had sent a vehicle to ferry the generator, but a man involved in the sale reportedly refused to let them take the generator and demanded money, even though Khokhar had already transferred Rs 9.44 lakh to the other sellers
Khokhar sent one of his business associates, Ajay Rana, to the Capital to check out the generator. He said, “In Delhi, a man named Sunny showed him (Rana) the generator, which was in a working condition.”
Khokhar was taken in by the pretence and transferred Rs 9.44 lakh to the sellers. He had sent a vehicle to ferry the generator, but Sunny reportedly refused to let them take the generator and demanded money. Khokhar tried contacting the sellers, but to no avail, as their phones had been switched off.
He then filed a complaint with the police, accusing Sunny and the sellers of hatching a plan to dupe him of Rs 9.44 lakh on the false pretext of selling him a generator.
The Panchkula police have registered a case in this regard under Sections 120-B , 406 and 420 of the IPC at the cybercrime police station.
