UNA, JULY 1

Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur today flagged off the inaugural run of the passenger train from Daulatpur Chowk in Una district to Ambala at 5.25 am from Delhi via video conferencing. The daily train was already running between Ambala and Amb-Andaura, while another 16 kilometre was added to the route.

Gagret MLA Rajesh Thakur too simultaneously flagged off the train at the Daulatpur Chowk station. Railways Assistant Divisional Manager Karan Singh, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Hari Mohan and Non-Official Member of the Northern Railways Sumit Sharma were also present at Daulatpur Chowk.

Just before the Lok Sabha elections, the 16-kilometre rail section between Amb-Andaura and Daulatpur Chowk was commissioned, paving the way for extension of trains.

The Chintpurni Marg station is located on the 16-kilometre extended route, allowing rail connectivity to devotees coming to the shrine.

In his brief address through video-conferencing, Anurag Thakur said the train would provide affordable and comfortable travel to the people. It would be particularly useful for defence personnel, traders, students and devotees.

A single journey fare between Daulatpur Chowk and Ambala is Rs 50, which is about five times cheaper than bus travel.

The train will start from Daulatpur Chowk at 5.25 am and reach Ambala Cantt at 11 am via Una, Ropar and Chandigarh, while on its return journey, the train will start from Ambala Cantt at 2.30 pm and reach Daulatpur Chowk at 8.30.
