Ludhiana: Thieves stole 12-tola gold from a house at Model Town on Tuesday. The house owner, Manjot Singh, said he and his mother had gone somewhere on May 29 when the theft took place. He said the thieves stole 12 tola of gold from his house. The Model Town police on Thursday registered a case against unidentified persons.


Liquor, cash stolen

A thief stole cash and liquor cartons from a liquor shop located near Bhagwan Chowk. Kuljit Singh, who works at the liquor vend, claimed when he visited the store on Wednesday morning, he found 26 cartons of liquor and Rs15,000 stolen from the vend. A case under Section 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered at the Shimlapuri police station against an unidentified person. TNS


Man arrested with weapon

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a man and recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from him. He was arrested from a check point near Ganda Nullah, Bajwa Nagar, Ludhiana. The bike-borne accused has been identified as Mohammad Naseem of Heera Nagar on Kakowal Road. A case under Section 379 and 411 of the IPC and Arms Act was registered at the division number 4 police station.


Purse snatched

A miscreant snatched a purse from a woman in Gagandeep Colony recently. The police on Wednesday registered a case against an unidentified person at Jodhewal police station. In her statement, Rozy Sharma of Gagandeep Colony said she along with her son was travelling to Kailash Nagar in a cycle rickshaw, when a miscreant snatched her purse. She had a mobile, gold chain and Rs 10,000 cash in the purse, she said.


Youth succumbs to burns

A 27-year-youth, who had received severe burn injuries, died at the PGI in Chandigarh. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Kumar of Gagan Nagar, Ludhiana. Station House Officer at Daba police station Pavitar Singh said Kamal, a labourer, was preparing tea at his home on May 18, when he caught fire. In his statement, Kamal had told the police that a bottle of oil had fallen on the stove due to which he caught fire. According to the police, Kamal was referred to the PGI in Chandigarh, where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday. On the statement of the deceased’s kin, the police have launched inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.


Mining: Four held, 5 booked

Two cases of alleged illegal mining were reported from different parts of the district. The Meharban police have arrested four persons of Kadiana Kalan village for allegedly stealing sand from Meowal village. The police have also impounded four tractors that were used for ferrying stolen sand. A case under Section 379 of the IPC and 21 of the Mining Act was registered against the accused. In the second case, the police recovered two tippers and two machines, including an earth moving machine, which were allegedly used for illegal mining at Bool village near Dehlon in Ludhiana district. According to the police, the accused fled from the spot. A case under Sections 379 and 473 of the IPC and 21 of the Mining Act was registered against five persons at Dehlon police station. TNS
