Amritsar, December 11

A local court in Ajnala on Tuesday sent Bikramjit Singh and Avtar Singh, suspects in the grenade attack on Nirankari Bhavan, to nine-day judicial remand.

The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) had produced them in the Court of Radhika Puri. On the occasion, police personnel were deployed in large numbers in the court complex.

Sub-Inspector Sukhbir Singh from the SSOC said, “During the preliminary investigation, we have recovered a bike, a pistol and cellphones, which are related to the case. We did not appeal for further police remand. We will get their remand if needed for further investigation.”

However, cops refused to reveal the findings of the investigation. Bikramjit and Avtar were sent to the Central Jail Amritsar.

Three people, including a preacher, were killed and more than 20 injured when two motorcycle-borne men threw a grenade on a religious congregation inside Nirankari Bhavan at Adliwal village on the outskirts of Amritsar on November 18.

The police had claimed to have cracked the case within 72 hours with the arrest of Bikramjit on November 21. The police had arrested Avtar on November 23.
