Balde Tibbe opens Sukhdev Preet theatre festival

AMRITSAR: The annual edition of theatre festival in memory of theatre activist Sukhdev Preet was inaugurated at the Punjab Natshala in collaboration with Rangkarmee group.

The annual edition of theatre festival in memory of theatre activist Sukhdev Preet was inaugurated at the Punjab Natshala in collaboration with Rangkarmee group.The inaugural play was Balde Tibbe (burning dunes) written by Balwant Gargi. Directed by Mamchpreet, the play reflected upon the intricacies of human relationships and the extent to which one can go to maintain them.

Story of Preeto, a young girl who marries a man of his father’s age for money, was acted out on stage by Rangkarmee group. Though wife of a wealthy old man, Preeto falls in love and bears the child of her husband’s son. When her husband entitles his wealth to the newborn, believing that the child is his, she finds a challenge to choose between her lover and her child. With a sensitive ending to the story, the play was high on emotions and hidden message.

The five day festival is dedicated to late Punjabi theatre person Sukhdev Preet, will next stage play Yatra 1947, directed by Kewal Dhaliwal, based on stories from Partition.
