Jind, July 22

A day after the Supreme Court dismissed the Centre’s review petition on the Jat reservation, khaps and Jat reservation committees today announced to lay siege to Delhi from September 28 if the Centre and the state government failed to restore reservation to them.

Members of these communities said if Kurukshetra BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini wanted to form his “OBC brigade”, he was free to do. They would not allow anyone to block their way to New Delhi.

“We do not want to create any law and order problem, but Saini has been challenging us repeatedly. We want to convey him that if he forms any OBC brigade by misguiding our OBC brothers, we have our own team to counter it,” said Sube Singh Sumain, spokesman of Sarva Jat Khap Panchayat.

Sumain said the BJP would solely be responsible if there was any law and order problem as its MP had been “provoking” others.

After a meeting at Jat Dharmshala in Jind, the panels marched to the office of Jind Deputy Commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi and submitted a memorandum to CM Manohar Lal Khattar through Jind SDM Yogesh Mehta.

In the memorandum, they have reminded the CM that he had assured them reservation on March 25.

“Despite repeated assurances from the Centre and the state government, BJP leaders are not taking Jat reservation seriously. We would lay siege to New Delhi from September 28 if the government fails to fulfil our demand,” said Tek Ram Kandela, national convener, Sarva Khap Panchayat.
