Experts dwell on intellectual property rights

KHANNA: Gulzar Group of Institutes, Khanna, organised a workshop on intellectual property rights for its faculty members and students on the campus.

Gulzar Group of Institutes, Khanna, organised a workshop on intellectual property rights for its faculty members and students on the campus.

The keynote speakers were Dr Rahul Taneja, working as scientist, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Haryana, Panchkula, and Shwetasree Majumder, principal at Fidus Law Chambers, past member of the Board of Directors, International Trademark Association.

The workshop was divided into two sessions. In the morning session, Dr Rahul Taneja delivered a talk on the topic and gave knowledge about patents, trademarks and how to register in it while Shwetasree Majumder discussed patent filing related to polypeptide sequence, genetically modified organisms, gene sequence, vectors, vaccine composition, antibiotics and equipment used in biotechnology research.

She emphasised to the students that biotechnology was a core research area, which had a lot of potential.

The biotech sector is growing at a very fast rate, thus leading to a lot of scope in research and development and ultimately leading to patent filing.
