Exit from a Whatsapp group by Suresh Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary (CPS) to the Punjab Chief Minister, has triggered rumours of his resignation, which the government has dismissed as baseless.

The buzz started after he left a Whatsapp group of administrative secretaries amidst reports that he was not keen to continue in government.

As social media picked up the ‘story’ of Kumar’s resignation being accepted by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the Secretary-cum-OSD to the CM, MP Singh, came on record to term the reports of resignation as baseless and fake.

Speaking to The Tribune, MP Singh said the CPS had not even submitted his resignation, so there was no question of it having been accepted by the CM. “Baseless rumours are being spread,” he said, adding the CM was in touch with Kumar.

Since Saturday morning, the CM had not met any officer, or participated in any official engagement.

Suresh Kumar, meanwhile, has remained unreachable. But he was expected to meet Capt Amarinder Singh in the evening.

A senior government functionary said things would soon become clear and Kumar would continue to be the CPS.

The controversy is being linked to the manner in which the ongoing case challenging Suresh Kumar’s appointment as CPS was being handled by the government.
