US, Patiala varsities to ink pact

PATIALA:The University of Wisconsin, Parkside, USA, and Punjabi University, is all set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to start joint courses at various levels in addition to launching of faculty and student exchange programmes.

The University of Wisconsin, Parkside, USA, and Punjabi University, is all set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to start joint courses at various levels in addition to launching of faculty and student exchange programmes. The process was initiated with a delegation, led by Prof Abey Kuruvilla, executive director, International Affairs, University of Wisconsin, that visited the Patiala university for exploring the possibilities of collaboration and finalising modalities in this regard.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) BS Ghuman welcomed the delegation. Later, a meeting was held in the office of the VC. It was resolved during a discussion to start one-plus-one master’s degree, two-plus-two and three-plus-one UG programmes jointly by both universities.  It was also decided to list priority areas of joint research and short-term faculty exchange programmes, which will be mutually beneficial to both universities.

The final agreement (MoU) will be signed in January 2018 when the Chancellor of University of Wisconsin will visit Punjabi University.  This arrangement has been facilitated by the Directorate of International Students of Punjabi University.  Those who participated in the meeting included Prof GS Batra, Dean, Research; Prof Sukhwinder Singh; Prof Lakhwinder Singh from the Department of Economics; and Prof Gurmeet Singh Maan, director, Media Centre. — TNS
